About Us
Shane
Murphy, a member of a prominent Victorian trotting family, has been the
studmaster at
Mountain View Stud, a former potato farm at Dunnstown, since 1993.
He
is a son of the late Don Murphy, who bred and trained a string of top pacers
including the dual Derby winner and Inter Dominion runner-up Vanderport,
Galway, Adare, Fawlty and Shanna Golden, and a brother to David, who conducts a
large and successful public training stable on the adjoining property.
Another
brother, John, holds a trainer’s licence and handles the breaking-in of the
youngsters, while a
cousin, Danny, helps out with the stud work during the breeding season.
Don
founded the stud in 1987 with the grand Globe Derby line horse Vanderport, then
in semi-retirement, the foundation sire.
Other
stallions to have stood here have been the successful American horses Beach
Towel, Die Laughing, Camtastic, Cam’s Trickster and Stampede Hanover, and the
Australian breds It Is I, Sting Lika Bee, Shakamaker and Pass The Mustard.
