Overview
Lawman, who established a
world record of 1:51.6, won in good company in North America, is the
fastest trotting stallion ever to be imported to Australia.
He was a top racehorse in his
own right, winning almost $280,000 and took his lifetime mark at four
years.
A genuine speedster, Lawman
clocked 11 sub 1:55 race-winning miles and established a world record of
1:51.6 as a four-year-old at The Meadowlands, cutting the first half in an
amazing 55.8 seconds.
Lightly raced, Lawman was the
winner of 13 races and was eight times placed from 37 starts. He was a
multiple winner at The Meadowlands and was a fast finishing fourth in the
fastest Breeders Crown in history
Lawman won $279,791 racing
against top horses such as Enough Talk 1:49.9 ($1.1m), Vivid Photo 1:50.4
($3m), Classic Photo 1:52.6 ($1.4m), Sand Vic 1:51.4 ($2.1m) and Muscles
Marinara 1:52.2.
Champion horseman Ross
Croghan, who trained Lawman during his career, believed the stallion was
capable of being the first trotter to break through the 1:50 barrier.
By the Hambletonian winner
and USA Horse of the Year Malabar Man, now making an impact as a sire of
sires, Lawman belongs to a family replete with champion racehorses and top
sires.
He is out of Malabar Gracious,
a daughter of the ‘Hambo’ winner Armbro Goal, from Jane Lobell, by the
world champion Speedy Somolli, also a ‘Hambo’ winner. Malabar Gracious, who
was unraced, ranks as a half-sister to Get It Right JP 1:58 ($141,553),
Malabar Motion 1:58.6 ($170,155) and Far Ahead 2, 1:59.8.
Lawman can boast three strong
strains of the blood of both Speedy Crown and Star’s Pride, two of the
greatest sires of trotters in history.
Furthermore, Lawman descends
from the same tribe as the great Donato Hanover 1:50.2 ($2.9m), champion
filly Snow White 1:52.8 ($1.4m) and leading sires Garland Lobell, Cumin and
Malhana Gindin.
Lawman stood his first season
at the prestige Perretti Farms, USA in 2009, covering a strong book of
mares.
