First for It Is I

It Is I, a former top flight juvenile and who later won at Group 1 level, was credited with his first winner when the two-year-old Viva Courage emerged successful on debut at Tabcorp Park Melton on December 2.

After bungling the start, the filly settled midfield and, hooked three-wide on the home turn, unwound a devastating finish to get up in the last stride.

Bred and raced by Frank Azzopardi, who also trained and drove her, Viva Courage is the first foal of the Exotic Earl mare Sister Courage, a half-sister to the classics-winning two-year-old Bit Of Courage 1:57.7 ($95,375).

It Is I, a son of Golden Greek, stands at the Mountainview Stud, Dunnstown, near Ballarat, of one of Victoria's leading studmasters, Shane Murphy.
